1. Information We Collect

Check Your Contractor ("CYC," "we," "us") collects different types of information depending on how you use the Platform:

Homeowner Data

  • Project details: Home improvement project type, room dimensions, accessibility needs, and preferences provided during project intake
  • ZIP code: Used to provide location-relevant pricing data and contractor matching
  • Photos and documents: Bathroom or project photos uploaded during intake; contractor bids (photos, PDFs, or text) uploaded for analysis
  • Audio recordings: Recordings of contractor visits uploaded for transcription and analysis (coaching feature)
  • Chat messages: Messages sent to the AI chat assistant

Contractor Data

  • Account information: Company name, contact name, email address, phone number, and password (encrypted)
  • Business details: License number, license state, years in business, specialties, bio, website, service area (ZIP code + radius)
  • Billing information: Payment details processed by Stripe (we do not store credit card numbers on our servers)
  • Bid submissions: Line items, pricing, cover letters, and warranty details submitted on job listings

Automatically Collected

  • Browser type and version, device type, and operating system
  • Pages visited and features used (via Vercel Analytics)
  • IP address (used for rate limiting and security; not stored permanently)

2. How We Use Your Information

  • AI processing: Your project details, bids, and recordings are sent to AI services (Anthropic Claude, OpenAI Whisper) for analysis. This data is processed in real-time and not stored by AI providers beyond the request.
  • Scope and bid analysis: Generating scope of work documents, analyzing contractor bids, and providing pricing estimates
  • Contractor matching: Connecting homeowners with local contractors through the sealed bidding marketplace
  • Platform improvement: Aggregate, anonymized pricing data from bid analyses improves our pricing accuracy over time
  • Communications: Sending notifications about bids, job listings, and account updates to contractors

3. Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored securely in Supabase (hosted on AWS) with Row-Level Security policies ensuring users can only access their own data. All data is encrypted in transit (TLS/SSL) and at rest.

Contractor passwords are hashed using bcrypt via Supabase Auth. We never store plain-text passwords.

Payment processing is handled entirely by Stripe. We store only Stripe customer and subscription identifiers, never credit card numbers or bank account details.

4. Information Sharing

We share your information only in these circumstances:

  • Sanitized scope data: When a homeowner posts a project for bids, a sanitized summary (categories, item counts, price ranges, project type) is shared with contractors. Personal information, photos, measurements, and freeform notes are never included.
  • AI providers: Anthropic (Claude) and OpenAI (Whisper) process your data per their respective privacy policies. Data is not retained by these providers beyond the API request.
  • Payment processor: Stripe processes subscription payments per their privacy policy.
  • Legal compliance: We may disclose information if required by law, court order, or governmental authority.

We do not sell your personal information to third parties. We do not share your data with advertisers.

5. Cookies and Tracking

We use essential cookies only for authentication (Supabase session management) and theme preferences. We use Vercel Analytics for privacy-friendly, aggregated usage metrics that do not use cookies or track individual users across sites.

We do not use advertising cookies, retargeting pixels, or third-party tracking scripts.

6. Data Retention

  • Homeowner data: Project data is stored as long as it remains useful for the user. Homeowner data can be deleted by clearing browser localStorage or by contacting us.
  • Contractor data: Account data is retained while the account is active and for 90 days after deletion.
  • Audio recordings: Recordings are processed in real-time and transcribed text is stored. Original audio files are not permanently stored on our servers.

7. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have the following rights regarding your personal information:

California Residents (CCPA)

  • Right to know what personal information we collect
  • Right to delete your personal information
  • Right to opt out of the sale of personal information (we do not sell data)
  • Right to non-discrimination for exercising your rights

Virginia Residents (VCDPA) and Other State Laws

  • Right to access your personal data
  • Right to correct inaccurate data
  • Right to delete your data
  • Right to data portability

8. Children's Privacy

The Platform is not intended for users under 18 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify contractors of material changes via email. The "Effective Date" at the top of this page indicates when this policy was last updated.
